Large Dairy Production Facility Use Case
Imagine you just learned that a group of executives from corporate will be stopping by soon for a plant tour – and you are the one responsible for making it all happen.
An engineering technician working for a large multinational dairy processor recently faced this challenge when his boss gave him the task of selecting, purchasing, and implementing a new tour guide communication system – in only a few short weeks. Not only did he pull it off, but he improved the quality of the plants’ tours and impressed the top executives with a tour guide system from Tripp Communications Systems.
Plant Tour Guide System Requirements
The main requirement for the new system? The presenters needed to be heard clearly, in spite of the extremely high noise levels in the 120,000 square-foot production facility. Other important considerations included the ability to conduct multiple tours simultaneously without interference or crosstalk, and two-way communication capabilities that allow participants to ask the guide questions as well as confer amongst themselves.
After researching tour guide systems and consulting with Tripp Communications Systems, the engineering tech decided on a two-way communication solution from Listen Technologies called ListenTALK.
ListenTALK not only satisfied all the company’s requirements, the system proved to be incredibly easy to use, too. “Everything worked perfectly on the day of the tour,” he said. “After everyone gathered around and put on hairnets, we handed out the transceivers and headsets. From there it took only took a few minutes to explain how everything worked and then we were ready to go!”
The group of 30 top executives was split up into three smaller tour groups of 10 each. Their plant tours lasted an hour-and-a-half and were spaced only 12 minutes apart. Each tour group was able to use the system without technical difficulties or interference from the other groups.
Easy to Use Enhanced Hearing Solution
“Before, whenever we gave a tour people had to wear earplugs and huddle close together in order to hear the speaker. Now with the new headsets we have noise-cancelling boom mics, so we have both top-notch hearing protection and the ability to talk directly to the presenter – in a single piece of equipment.”
During the tours the engineering tech discovered another useful feature of the audio communications system – its ability to join a participant with a tour group “on-the-fly”, without using a docking station.
He explained: “An employee in Quality Control gave a presentation to all three groups, so he had to pair up with each group as they passed by. It turned out to be simple to do. Just by touching the back of his transceiver to the back of the presenter’s transceiver he was able to join each group instantly.”
The reaction of the executives to the tour guide system? “Everybody loved ‘em,” said the engineering technician. In fact, participants were so impressed that several of the company’s other production facilities are purchasing them for their plant tours, as well.”
